Areas of Expertise:

  • Development of two-row malting barley cultivars with enhanced agronomic performance, disease resistance and quality traits for domestic and global markets
  • Development of barley germplasm with improved resistance to Fusarium head blight
  • Development of barley germplasm with resistance to spot blotch, net blotch, scald, stem rust and other diseases

Current Projects:

  • Develop new barley cultivars with reduced levels of Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and associated mycotoxins as a means of reducing health risks to humans and livestock.
  • Develop new barley cultivars with improved resistance to plant pathogens to minimize losses in quality and reduce environment and production risks.
  • Develop new barley cultivars with improved malting quality for continued and new opportunities for producers in domestic and foreign malt and malting barley markets.
  • Develop and enhance new and existing tools in biotechnology and digital technology to enhance new barley cultivar development by providing new opportunities to enhance quality and reduce production risk in barley.
  • Development of barley germplasm with improved resistance to Fusarium head blight
