Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is launching a new version of the Red Meat Market Information System. In December 2008, reporting formats for slaughter and pricing information will change. In the coming months further changes will be introduced for the reporting of other red meat market information.
These changes incorporate new technology adopted by the Department and also comply with government wide Common Look and Feel (CLF) standards for information accessibility within Government of Canada internet sites. The following outlines the objectives of the CLF initiative:
Internet technologies have provided many Canadians with an enhanced sense of intellectual and economic freedom. But for many people, gaining entry to Web content is more complicated. Some Canadians rely on assistive technologies such as text readers, audio players and voice activated devices to overcome the barriers presented by standard technologies. CLF standards provide direction for web authors, to ensure that all site content and functions are available to all users. The Government of Canada has adopted these standards to ensure that the majority of Canadians will find it relatively easy to use on-line information and services.
All reports will be accessed through a menu system where the user chooses from a list of available reports and then, within the chosen report, selects parameters and options from pull down lists to arrive at the desired report. Reports will be available in XHTML format – which supports the CLF accessibility needs – as well as in PDF and XLS spreadsheet format.
Extensive efforts have been made to streamline the collection and storage of data. In some cases, limited historical information is available on this website. If you find that data for a prior period is not available, or you require assistance, please contact the Red Meat Section
