Research projects (Brandon Research and Development Centre)
The Brandon Research and Development Centre (Brandon RDC) supports innovative research, development, and technology and knowledge transfer activities related to three of the nine Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Sector Science Strategies.
Agro-ecosystem productivity and health
Scientists are developing crop management strategies to help farmers improve production and respond to weather and climate events. These strategies will enable informed decision-making based on land suitability; increase the efficient use of resources; reduce production input costs; and promote sustainable crop production.
Cereal and pulse
Brandon RDC develops new and improved genetic material in wheat, oat and barley for use primarily in Western Canada. Research is also conducted to improve the efficiency of nutrient and water utilization and to develop integrated crop management practices that reduce the impact of insects, disease and weeds on cereal and pulses.
Potato research focuses on developing site specific nitrogen and water management strategies and using chemical and agronomic practices to manage early dying complex.
