Areas of Expertise:

  • develop sustainable, economical, environmentally safe weed management strategies using integrated weed management principles in field and horticultural crops
  • engineer novel, more efficacious reduced risk weed control strategies for minor use crops
  • understand the effect of biotic factors on growth, population, and community dynamics of agricultural weeds, including that of invasive and/or herbicide resistant populations
  • obtain a better understanding of the seed biology/ecology of agricultural weeds, with special emphasis on invasive or herbicide-resistant populations

Current Projects:

  • Evaluation of low risk management of insects, weeds and diseases in field grown vegetables
  • An Eastern Canada Research Network for the study of organic vegetable rotational cropping systems
  • Impact of cropping systems, climate change and fungal pathogens on allergenic agricultural weeds in eastern Canada
  • Evaluation of living mulches for suppression of annual grasses in sweet corn
  • Development and impact of a decision support system for the application of herbicides on the spatial-temporal distribution of weeds in a corn-soybean rotation
  • Evaluation of reduced-risk weed management options in field grown processing tomatoes
  • Evaluation of reduced-risk weed management options in sugar beets
  • Evaluation of low risk weed management options in dry edible beans, snap beans, lima beans, carrots, red beets and peas
  • Evaluation of reduced-risk weed management options in seed corn
