Agriculture and climate

Additional Information

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) science supports sustainable development of Canadian agriculture by addressing agri-environmental challenges and opportunities. Learn more about how our research helps farmers improve their yields and environmental sustainability, fight pests and major crop diseases, and open new global market opportunities.

Greenhouse gases
Information on gases emitted by agricultural activities and how emissions are measured and managed.
Future outlook
Scenarios and models on the impact of changing climate on Canadian agriculture.

Climate and air quality indicators

AAFC has developed three agri-environmental indicators to assess the impact of agriculture on the quality of our air and climate:

Reducing agricultural greenhouse gases

The Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program helps Canadian farmers manage their land and livestock in a way that will mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

The Holos software program tests possible ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from farms and is available at no cost to users.

Global Research Alliance

Canada is one of the founding members of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, an international network of more than 30 member-countries, devoted to collaboration in agricultural research on greenhouse gas mitigation and beneficial management practices (BMPs) for farmers in Canada and around the world.
