Cover Crop Protection Program

Please note: This program has been discontinued.

The Cover Crop Protection Program (CCPP) was announced on May 23, 2006, as an initiative designed to provide financial assistance to all Canadian agricultural producers who were unable to seed commercial crops due to spring flooding or excessive moisture. Federal assistance of $15 per acre for eligible applicants was announced to help offset the costs of improving and protecting flood-damaged soil until another commercial crop can be planted.

Objectives of the CCPP are to:

  • Improve the capacity of affected producers to meet increased costs associated with land restoration and improvement due to flooding;
  • Improve short-term cash flow concerns for insured producers;
  • Recognize the hardships faced by producers due to flooding; and
  • Help reduce further soil erosion by enabling insured producers to re-seed affected lands, bringing them back into production.
