Stream A - Facilitating Sector Capacity

What is provided?

Support for value chain roundtables for the agriculture sector. The roundtables provide a forum for government and industry to work together to meet the rapidly changing needs of domestic and global markets.

Stream B - Fostering Business Development

What is provided?

Support for sector activities that allow agriculture businesses to adapt to change and improve their profitability and resilience.

Who is this for?

Not-for-profit organizations who operate nationally in Canada and deliver services and/or products for farmers and producers to develop their agri-businesses' entrepreneurial capacity in one or more of the following areas:

  • Developing youth, young and established farmers;
  • Delivering farm safety initiatives;
  • Developing business skills; and
  • Developing individual and industry leadership.

Stream C - Facilitating and Supporting a Modern Regulatory Environment

What is provided?

Helps governments, industry and regulatory agencies work together to ensure that stakeholders participate in, and adapt to changes in the regulatory environment in order to stay competitive. It also provides access to newer and more effective pest control tools for specialized crops through the Minor Use Pesticides Program.

Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program

What is provided?

Funding for projects that address a need for either more research or better technology transfer with a goal of developing beneficial management practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the areas of livestock systems, cropping systems, agricultural water use efficiency and agroforestry.

Industry-led Research and Development Stream

What is provided?

Provides funding and/or resources to organizations supporting pre-commercialization research, development and knowledge transfer leading to innovative agriculture, agri-food and agri-based practices, processes and products.

Enabling Commercialization and Adoption Stream

What is provided?

Provides repayable funding to for-profit corporations and cooperatives to facilitate the pre-commercial demonstration, commercialization and adoption of innovative agri-based products, technologies, processes or services.

AgriInsurance

What is provided?

Provides producers with cost-shared insurance for natural hazards in order to minimize the financial implications of production and/or asset losses.

What is provided?

A national farm program that provides matching contributions to producers who make annual deposits to an AgriInvest account, to help manage income declines or make investments to mitigate risks or improve market income.

Market Development Stream

What is provided?

Provides project-based funding to non-profit organizations and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) for promotional and market development activities.

Assurance Systems Stream

What is provided?

Provides project-based funding to non-profit organizations in order to develop Canadian national assurance systems or standards.

AgriProcessing Initiative

What is provided?

Provides repayable contributions to existing agri-processing companies for projects involving the adoption of innovative and new-to-company manufacturing technologies and processes.

AgriRecovery

What is provided?

AgriRecovery is a framework that guides how federal-provincial-territorial governments work together to assess the impacts of disasters on Canada's agricultural producers and respond with timely, targeted initiatives where there is need for assistance beyond ongoing programming. Initiatives developed under the AgriRecovery Framework are designed to help producers with the extraordinary costs necessary for recovery.

Producers cannot apply directly to the AgriRecovery Framework, but to individual initiatives launched under the Framework. See the AgriRecovery website for a list and links to current initiatives. Initiatives are typically administered by the participating province(s)/territory(ies).

Agricultural producers whose operations have been affected by a natural disaster event (e.g., disease, pest, extreme weather).

What is provided?

Canada Brand members have access to a suite of tools, free of charge, including specialized graphics in multiple formats and languages, professional Canadian photography, and market research reports.

Canadian Agricultural Adaptation Program (2014-2019)

What is provided?

Provides project-based funding to non-profit organizations in the agricultural sector responding to new and emerging issues and opportunities.

Canadian Agricultural Loans Act Program (CALA)

What is provided?

Provides financial loan guarantees to farmers and agricultural co-operatives in order to establish, improve, and develop farms.

Canadian Animal Genetic Resources (CAGR)

What is provided?

Works with breeders to preserve the genetic diversity of Canadian livestock and poultry breeds, and to develop new techniques to conserve semen, oocytes, embryos and reproductive tissues.

Churchill Port Utilisation Program

Provides funding to legal entities that arrange for and transact the shipment of eligible grain through the Port of Churchill on outward on ocean-going vessels.

Community Pasture Program

What is provided?

Conserves the land resource, protecting it from deterioration due to drought while utilizing the land primarily for the grazing and breeding of livestock.

Provides timely information to the agricultural sector in order to identify the impacts of climatic variability on water supply and agriculture.

Provides direct acess to sophisticated equipment and a versatile research and development environment to agri-food companies in order to assist with small-scale food processing and testing needs, and to foster innovation in the area of food research.

Geospatial Products

What is provided?

Provides online access to agriculture-related maps, geospatial data and tools to help you understand the geography of agriculture and make better decisions for environmentally responsible yet competitive agriculture.

Livestock Auction Traceability Initiative (LATI)

Provides project-based funding to livestock facility owners/managers for the alteration of animal handling structures, to enhance traceability capabilities at high-risk, high through-put co-mingling sites.

Minor Use Pesticides Program

What is provided?

Works with producers, the provinces, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency, pesticide manufacturers and the U.S. IR-4 Project to establish producer-selected pest problems on minor crops, match them with pesticides and prepare regulatory submissions for new minor uses of pesticides.

Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization

What is provided?

Supports the development and transfer of the results of research efforts by the Science and Technology Branch (STB) of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).

Pesticide Risk Reduction Program
