Annex A: How to apply
There is a three-stage application process to the AgriInnovate Program:

Stage 1: Pre-screening, Stage 2: Application, Stage 3: Assessment
Stage 1: Pre-Screening
In stage one of the application process the applicant must complete an online pre-screening form (Annex B). The pre-screening form will be used to assess eligibility based on the mandatory program criteria. Instructions on how to complete the pre-screening form are available in Annex C.
Applicants whose proposed projects are eligible will be contacted by a program representative to discuss the project and next steps.
Proposals that are deemed to meet the priorities of the program will be invited to proceed to stage two of the application process, and required to submit an application form online
Stage 2: Application
Applicants that have been invited to submit a full application (stage 2) will have 30 business days to complete the online application and supporting documents.
Proposed projects will be assessed based on information provided in both the pre-screening form and on the information provided in the full application package. As the assessment proceeds, the program may request additional information and supporting documentation from applicants. Requested information will be required within established deadlines. An invitation to submit a full application does not constitute an offer of funding.
The step-by-step instructions to complete a full application will be provided with the Application form, during stage 2 of the application process.
A list of additional documents that will be required with your application form is provided in Annex D. It is important to review this list to ensure that all the documentation will be available, and that it is included upon submission of your online application. Your application must be complete in order to be fully assessed. Please review the application checklist and ensure that you have included all required documents and have completed all forms according to the instructions from the stage 2 application form instruction guide.
Stage 3: Assessment
Once an Application has been deemed complete during stage 2 of the application process a program representative will advise the Applicant of their file completeness date. This date will allow the application to proceed to stage 3 of the application process where it will be assessed based on the program principles.
Annex B: Pre-Screening Form
The objective of the pre-screening stage of the application process is to assist interested parties in determining, prior to investing valuable time and effort in completing an application under the AgriInnovate Program (AIP-PAI), whether or not they are eligible and whether they are ready to proceed with a formal application. Please read the Applicant Guide carefully before completing the applicant pre-screening form to ensure you have a clear understanding of the program eligibility criteria and other requirements.
Filling in and saving PDF forms
To fill in and save the PDF pre-screening form, follow these steps:
- Save the PDF form in a folder that you will easily find on your computer.
- Launch Adobe Reader.
- Browse to the folder where you saved the file, and open it from within Adobe Reader. You can now fill in and save your PDF form.
Note: PDF forms have been tested for compatibility with Adobe Reader 11 and higher and may not be fully supported in other PDF viewers and on some mobile devices.

- Demonstration to a targeted user in order to secure a key customer necessary to penetrate the market;
- Production of samples for market validation; or,
- Creation of a reference or showcase site for pre-commercial demonstration.

Part II - Checklist: Do you have in hand the following documents?
Completed Business Plan including research data, trial tests and analysis information substantiating the innovation component of the project and its readiness for demonstration, commercialization or adoption?
Signed financing agreements* (contract, sheet of terms) related to the project funding
*Third party funding cannot be conditional on AAFC program acceptance
Quotes and estimates supporting the costs of the project budget
Annual financial statements (audited or reviewed) for the past three years or since the date of business start-up where the business is less than three years old including latest interim financial statements
Pro forma financial statements: Annual pro forma financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement) for the duration of the proposed work plan, plus the three following years of operation.
Copies of any federal, provincial, territorial or municipal authorizations or permits required to complete this project and any documentation that may be required pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012?
Copies of all regulatory permits and/or patents required to undertake the project
Market analysis and/or studies, letters of support establishing a market demand
If you answered no to any of these questions, you may not be ready to file an application. Please, review the Applicant Guide to ensure that you have all the required documents ready before applying. Annex C: Pre-Screening Form Completion Instructions
Pre-Screening Form - Things to remember
- Save as you go: The pre-screening form allows you to create a draft. You can save it and return later to complete or revise it, print it and submit it.
- There are character limits provided: The answer blocks have a set overall maximum length. Each section displays its maximum number of characters allowed. Spaces and hard returns are counted as characters and add to the total number of characters.
- Review the form before submitting: Once the pre-screening form is complete and ready to submit, a thorough review is strongly recommended. Once the form has been submitted (using the "Submit" button), the form is considered final and may not be changed.
- Keep a record of the application: You can print your application before submitting it by using the "Print" button in the form. You can also save your application onto a desktop or data storage device (for example, USB flash drive) by using the "Save As" button and naming it accordingly.
Pre-screening form – instructions
Part I – Applicant Information
- Organization type
- See section 1.3 to determine if you are eligible to apply under this program.
- Legal name
- Identify the legal name of the applicant, as it appears in legal documents such as letters of incorporation.
- Operating as (if used)
- Identify if the operating name is the same as the legal name. If the operating name is different, indicate the operating name in the space provided.
- Organization website
- Enter the organization’s website address.
- Organization profile
- Provide a brief profile of your company and your business including principal area of focus and length of time in business
- Primary contact
- Enter the name, telephone number and e-mail address of the of the primary contact person for liaising with AAFC on matters involving the application. The person named should be an authorized official of the organization, who has full authority to bind said organization through funding agreements.
- Project contact
- If your project is approved for funding, this is the person who will be liaising with AAFC during the project. This person can be the same as the Primary Contact.
- Project information
- Identify, if applicable, the location of the project, if it is other than the organization’s headquarters, and the project start and end dates
AAFC will use the information in this section to determine whether or not your project is eligible.
Identify the nature of your project in terms of the program’s eligible activities (select from the list provided)
Describe your project using a maximum of 1,000 characters; in the text box provided include a brief description of the project. It is useful for our assessment to highlight the key theme or purpose of the project and how it fits within the program priorities indicated in section 1.2 of the Applicant Guide.
Describe how your project is innovative using a maximum of 500 characters.
Identify whether the new agricultural product, technology, process or service is within 24 months of market.
Identify whether there is a market demand for the proposed new agricultural product, technology, process or service, and list the organizations and main customers who support the project.
Identify (select yes or no from the list provided):

Identify the estimated total project cost, and provide a breakdown according to the program’s cost categories.
Identify whether you have secured your portion of the financing, and identify the source/sources.
Part II - Documents checklist
If your project is deemed eligible and you are invited to complete a full application, there are additional documents which you will have to provide with your application for it to be deemed complete. Complete the checklist to ensure you have all the basic supporting documentation that will be required for submitting a full application. An exhaustive list can be found in Annex D of the Applicant Guide.
Annex D: Checklist of Attachments/Supporting Documents required for a full application
Applicants whose proposed projects are deemed to meet the priorities of the program will be invited to submit a full application online (stage 2). A program representative will contact you to provide instructions.
For reference, in addition to the online application form that will be provided, the following documents are required as part of a complete application:

|Diagram of the Applicant’s corporate structure||Diagram to include parent and subsidiary companies and their interrelationships and mandates.|
|Audited or Review Engagement Financial statements for the past three years.||Financial statements to include an income statement, a balance sheet, cash flow statement and the most recent interim financial statements.|
