Horticulture - Canadian Industry
The Horticulture and Cross Sectoral Division of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's (AAFC) Sector Development and Analysis Directorate is engaged in ongoing research and analysis of the sector, including economic factors and conditions, and policy, program and other strategic issues affecting the productivity and competitiveness of Canadian horticulture. This section gives access to sector reports and statistical information from AAFC and other sources.
Additionally, the Horticulture and Cross Sectoral Division provides market information (InfoHort), which offers current storage and price reporting on a wide range of commodities in key Canadian markets to support decision-making by the sector, and within government.
The Horticulture and Cross Sectoral Division also works with industry to develop common action plans on strategic and operational issues relevant to the sector, such as marketing and regulations, through forums such as the Horticulture Value Chain Roundtable, and in collaboration with sector associations.
As part of the Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council action plan, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and United States Agriculture Marketing Service established the Agriculture and Food Working Group (Financial Protection for Produce Sellers)to examine comparable approaches to financial risk mitigation tools which will protect Canadian and U.S. fruit and vegetable suppliers from buyers that default on their payment obligations.
