California exported $4.4 billion to Canada, including:

  • $1.7B in fruits and nuts (including $271M in strawberries)
  • $914M in vegetables (including $236M in lettuce and chicory)
  • $424M in wine
  • $335M in preparations of vegetables, fruits, and nuts
  • $118M in baked goods

California imported $2.2 billion from Canada, including:

  • $489M in canola meal
  • $255M in fresh/frozen beef
  • $180M in baked goods
  • $155M in canola oil
  • $124M in fresh/frozen pork

California's top agriculture and agri-food export markets:

  • Canada: 18%
  • Japan: 9%
  • Mexico: 9%
  • South Korea: 6%
  • Hong Kong: 6%

A Strong Partnership in Trade:

Feeding an integrated supply chain! Canada is California's top agricultural export market, with a total of $6.6B in bilateral agricultural trade in 2014. Canada imported $1.7B in fruit and nuts as well as over $914M in vegetables from California. Meanwhile, California imported $2.2B in agricultural products from Canada including $489M in canola meal (often used for animal feed) which helped make California cows more productive and the California dairy industry more profitable. The California-Canada and U.S.-Canada trading relationships are increasingly important as trade and integration mutually strengthens our competitive position within the changing global marketplace.
