Fish and Seafood Industry
Access market information, facts and figures on the Canadian fish and seafood industry.
The fish and seafood sector is highly export oriented, exporting about 75% of production. The Government of Canada's responsibility for the fish and seafood industry is split between Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) which regulates and manages the production end of the business (wild or farmed fish when they are in the water) and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) which provides market-development and traceability support. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) sets the policies, requirements and inspection standards.
