Office of Audit and Evaluation

The Office of Audit and Evaluation (OAE) supports the Deputy Minister by providing internal audit and evaluation services and advice, managing a secretariat for the Deputy Minister's Audit and Evaluation Committees and liaising with the Office of the Auditor General and other federal auditors.

The Director General of the OAE reports to the Deputy Minister and is a member of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Governance Committees.

How Office of Audit and Evaluation Works

Director General’s Office (DGO) manages the Branch's financial and human resources as well as provides secretariat functions for the Departmental Audit and Evaluation Committees. DGO monitors the implementation of recommendations of internal audits, evaluations and external audits and coordinates OAE's departmental performance monitoring and reporting.

Internal Audit Services conduct independent and objective assessments of how well the department's risk management, control and governance processes are designed and working. AAFC-Internal Audit relies on the Treasury Board's 2012 Policy on Internal Audit, the Internal Auditing Standards for the Government of Canada and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing for guidance.

Evaluation Services provide evaluations to determine the ongoing relevance and performance of all direct program spending including grants and contributions programs. AAFC-Evaluation Services relies on the Treasury Board Policy on Evaluation (2009) and its associated Directives and Standards for guidance.
