- gives you the right to get copies of your personal information, or have it changed or corrected
Access to information
The Access to Information Act
- makes sure you can get information the Government of Canada controls
- within a reasonable time
- while preventing harm by keeping some types of information from being released, as explained in the Act
- makes sure departments publish information about the kinds of information they keep

We have up to 30 days to respond to your request, either by providing the records or explaining why more time is needed.
Response is provided within 30 days following receipt of request; the response time may be extended pursuant to section 9 of the Access to Information Act or section 15 of the Privacy Act. A notice of extension is to be sent within initial 30 days after receipt of request. Requests cannot be extended after the first 30 calendar days have elapsed.
